Shortage of raw materials during the war and subsequent decline
The Bockbrauerei’s economic decline began in 1914 with the outbreak of World War I. The scarcity of raw materials was detrimental to the quality of the beer, and a reserve military hospital was set up in the hall building. For the time being, the fun times at the brewery were a thing of the past.
Following a number of changes of owner, the company was acquired in 1920 by Schultheiss-Patzenhofer Brauerei AG, at the time Germany’s largest brewery. In the same year, beer production was discontinued at the Bockbrauerei. This was probably due chiefly to the shortage of raw materials caused by the war.
